STRATEGIC THINKING, EXECUTION & PLANNING/PROCESS SYSTEM (STEPS)
Strategic Processing - It is the way you think about developing strategies, both short-term and long-term. SBL Co's goal is to help you achieve sustainable competitive advantage by preserving what is distinctive about your organization. It means performing different activities from your rivals, or performing similar activities to your rivals but in different ways.
Strategy is the thinking process for creating a unique and valuable position, involving a different set of activities. Developing strategic processes will help you to respond rapidly to competitive and market changes. Benchmarking both internally and externally will help you achieve best practices.
Assessing your core competencies will help you stay ahead of your rivals. Understanding how competitive forces shape your strategy can help your organization stake out a position that is less vulnerable and highly competitive.
The goal of strategic processes is to be able to identify quickly those strategies that will support your competitive position. From this process you will learn and implement the STEPS process.
Strategic
The key to an effective STEP is that the organization’s Executive TEAM is committed to a comprehensive facilitated approach that will engage them in Strategic Thinking, Execution & Planning. The initial procedure is to assign and discuss the following:
Thinking
The thinking process starts with SWOT, assessing your corporate strengths and weaknesses from a staffing and resource allocation perspective. Next assess the organization’s opportunities within the market place and also possible internal and external threats.
Combining information resulting from the SWOT Analysis and the 30,000 ft vision perspective will guide the Executive Team in determining 3 to 5 Key Initiatives (focused commitments, goals and objectives) for the next operating year.
Execution
With a strong execution commitment the Key Initiatives will be on their way to becoming successful during the current operating year.
Accountability is encouraged by identifying which department will be assigned as the Lead Department and which departments are assigned as Contributing Departments for each Key Initiative.
Planning/Process
Next is the Tactical set-up planning process. Who is going to do what? What will be the measurable and expected completion date for evaluating the tactical input throughout the operating year?
System
The System for tracking the tactical input throughout the operating year is the Strategic Tracking System (STS) methodology which establishes accountabilities, tracks progress reports and evaluates execution effectiveness. strategictrackingsytem.com/sblco/
The STS provides continuous progress reporting of all the tactical input, contributed by each department. All departments may monitor each other’s progress throughout the operating year. This system provides ongoing dialogue between the departments. The accountability and support process that is developed by this approach is a key outcome of the STS and will help in assuring the successful outcome of the Key Initiatives.
With our how you think approach you will come away with a Strategic Process design that focuses on your bottom-line, strong execution, accountability and measurable result strategies.
